Method 1: Using a Dash in the URL (yout-ube)

  1. Open your web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) and navigate to YouTube.
  2. Find the video you want to watch.
  3. Before clicking on the video, look at the URL in the address bar.
  4. Once you have the URL, locate the letters "youtube" in the URL.
  5. Insert a dash ("-") between the letter "T" and the letter "U" in "youtube".
  6. Press Enter on your keyboard to load the modified URL.
  7. The video should now play without ads and in full screen mode, with related videos hidden.

Method 2: Using an Underscore and "popup" in the URL (watch_popup)

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from Method 1 to get the URL of the video you want to watch.
  2. Instead of inserting a dash, move your cursor to the URL after the word "watch".
  3. Type an underscore ("_") using the shift key and then the dash key.
  4. After the underscore, type "popup" without any spaces.
  5. Press Enter on your keyboard to load the modified URL.
  6. The video should now play without ads and in full screen mode, with related videos hidden.

Remember, these methods work across different browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) and can be particularly useful for teachers or anyone who wants to watch YouTube videos without interruptions.

Did you know, as a teacher, that on YouTube you can hide commercials, put it in full screen, and hide the related videos by simply doing one thing? There are two methods to do so, so let's get into it. On my computer, I have a browser open, it's Safari. If you don't use Safari, and you use Chrome, that's totally fine. This method applies across all platforms, so whether you have Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, it still works. So I'm on YouTube. I want to watch this video, but sometimes when I click this video, it plays ads. Ads are just unreliable; I don't know which ones are going to pop up in the classroom.

But I use this video a lot. So before I create a shortcut on my desktop, how can I hide the commercials and make it full screen? Well, one of the options is by simply going into the URL and putting a dash between the 'T' and the 'U'. I'm going to zoom in a little bit more just so that you know, putting the dash between the 'T' and the 'U'. After doing so, all you need to do is simply press enter on the keyboard, and there you are. Now you can watch this video full screen; there's no ads going to be playing, and all the related videos are hidden. Now, I would encourage you to grab the URL and simply move it onto your desktop and watch what happens. So I'm going to click on my desktop, click my shortcut, and there it is, full screen, which is quite amazing.

This is what I want. I told you there's another method, so let me go ahead and show you that method. I'm going to go to my Safari, go back to YouTube. Actually, this is a really cool thing. If I cancel out of a tab in Safari or Chrome, works in both applications, and I want to get back to that tab that I was on, I can do a keyboard shortcut, Command and while pressing Command, Shift key, and while pressing both keys, I can do the 'T' key, and it will bring up that tab I was just recently on. So if you cancel a tab using that shortcut, it will save you a lot of time. Okay, let's go back, and here's the other method. It starts the same way, going into the URL, and instead of putting a dash between the 'T' and the 'U', what I'm going to do is actually put my cursor after the word 'watch' and do an underscore. An underscore is by pressing the shift key and then the dash, and then type 'popup', press enter, and it will do the same thing. It will go full screen.

Now, why am I showing you the other way if one of them works? Well, because sometimes one method doesn't work and the other method does, and often what I find is that when I share a link to a parent, the underscore popup method works way better than the dash between the 'T' and the 'U', so I want to show you both methods just in case. That is how you hide the commercials and related videos on YouTube. Thank you for watching.
